Monterey Pop Festival 1967 – Part 1

Posted on 26 August 2010 by admin

Monterey Pop Festival, the three-day event staged in 1967.

Performers included Canned Heat, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Eric Burdon, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar & many more.

Janis Joplin was definitely the star performer, in my opinion, but I loved Canned Heat.

I was born and raised in Sacramento, California, I wish we were in the 1960’s, those were the best years of my life. Now California SUCKS!!!! Now I’m living in Suffolk, Viriginia, and this place is just as bad. California use to be the best place in the world to live, but fucking crazies (FOX News crazies) are taking over the state.

The girl at 06:57 in the orange dress is Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas. She was married at 18 and divorced three years after Monterey at the ripe old age of 26.

music from the 60’s is the best, with 70’s music a close second.

You don’t need Facebook and Twitter to connect and organize a “happening.” It seems people knew where to go and why there were all together…

To me this represents the last time youth culture was actually created by youth.I love the shot of the young couple dancing carefree on the grass. So surreal that america was actually like this compared to today.

@pml4010 Right! I think people put artists (so called) on such a pedestal nowadays without realizing they are people just like me and you, therefore seperating the thought that you can interact with them.

I’d want to go just to see Hendrix’s version of Killing Floor, my life would then be complete.

I’ve always wondered if that Photographer at 3:26 is Faye Dunaway. She was into photography and it sure looks her.

  21. pml4010 Says:

it’s fascinating to see the music artists themselves hanging out in the crowd. that never happens anymore.
