The interviewer, Rose Aguilar, says, “I met Charmaine Felton, a retired teacher who hasn’t spoken out before this movement began, at Occupy Monterey in California.”
She taught for 35 years and believes that teachers need to take back their profession by speaking out more forcefully for what’s best for children. “We’ve had enough.”
Charlene says that for too long, teachers have allowed other people to say what the teaching profession does, or should do, and it is time for teachers to step up and let their voices be heard.
The Monterey International Pop Music Festival was a three-day concert event held June 16 to June 18, 1967 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. Monterey was the first widely-promoted and heavily-attended rock festival, attracting an estimated 55000 total attendees with to 90000 people present at the event’s peak at midnight on Sunday.
It was notable as hosting the first major American appearances by Jimi Hendrix and The Who, as well as the first major public performances of Janis Joplin and Otis Redding.
The Monterey Pop Festival embodied the themes of California as a focal point for the counterculture and is generally regarded as one of the beginnings of the “Summer of Love” in 1967.
It also became the template for future music festivals, notably the Woodstock Festival two years later. Canned Heat is a blues-rock/boogie rock band that formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1965. The group has been noted for its own interpretations of blues material as well as for efforts to promote the interest in this type of music and its original artists.
It was launched by two blues enthusiasts, Alan Wilson and Bob Hite, who took the name from Tommy Johnson’s 1928 “Canned Heat Blues”, a song about an alcoholic who had desperately turned to drinking Sterno, generically called “canned heat”.

Thanks to the original poster of this vid. The audio has been upgraded to stereo & punched up a little.
The Who had difficulty that night using borrowed amps, and couldn’t quite get their trademark sound to come through, resulting in a tinny-sounding set.
Notice Keith having his snare drum restored after the song was finished.

California is tossing its hat into the ring of states that have seen mass numbers of dead wildlife, as hundreds of dead birds were found in an area just off of Highway 101.
California Highway Patrol found the doomed birds near the road on Saturday and gave the California Department of Fish and Game a call to investigate the matter.
The birds have been noted as small with black and brown feathers, showing no signs of gunshot wounds or other hazards. This report is added to the other masses of dead fish and birds found in Louisiana and other states, however, scientists say that these kinds of mass deaths are a part of nature, occur regularly and often go unreported by the media.
Winter storms are rolling through California – this means you must be prepared. The California Emergency Management Agency works tirelessly with local authorities to help in times of peril, but when followed, some simple tips on emergency preparedness could mean more than saving just your home and belongings.
It’s no secret that California’s winter storms can be extremely hazardous and deadly, with threats of flash floods, mudslides and high coastal surf (among others) rampant. Follow along with this list to ensure you are prepared for disaster:
When a flood WATCH is issued:
Move valuable household possessions to the upper floors of your home.
Fill your car’s gas tank in the event an evacuation order is issued.
When a flood WARNING is issued:
Tune in for information and advice to local radio and TV stations.
When told to evacuate, do so as quickly as possible.
When a flash flood WATCH is issued:
Watch for signs of flash flooding and be ready to evacuate on a moment’s notice.
When a flash flood WARNING is issued:
If you believe flash flooding has begun, evacuate immediately as you may have only seconds to escape.
Move to higher ground and away from rivers, streams, creeks and storm drains. Do not drive around barricades. These are placed to keep you out of harm’s way.
If your car stalls in rapidly rising waters, abandon it immediately and climb to higher ground.
Wherever you live or travel, you should be aware of the dangers of winter storms and be prepared to cope with one. For more information on the history of flooding in your area, and how you and your family can prepare for winter, call your city or county Office of Emergency Services (in the Government section of the telephone book), or the nearest office of the National Weather Service.
