Tryillias by Maestro Theodore Gargiulo at Santa Catalina School, March 2

Date: March 02, 2019

Time: 3:00 pm

On Saturday, March 2, Occhiata Foundation will present the world premiere of Tryillias, an opera by local composer and conductor Theodore Gargiulo. The one act opera is based on the story of the fourth wise man who sets out to find the infant Jesus. It is an archetypal struggle between terror and faith, power and love. The story chronicles a village’s rite of passage from tyranny to a new order.

There is a special 12:00 pm performance for Monterey County schools and a 3:00 pm performance for the general public. Performances will take place at the Mary L. Johnson Music Center at Santa Catalina School in Monterey.

The mission of the 10 year old Monterey based foundation is twofold: to bring American students to opera and to bring American opera to the world.

“We’re delighted to enact both missions in a single event this year,” remarked Franca Gargiulo, Founder of The Occhiata Foundation. “This year, in addition to viewing an opera, we’re able to give students a glimpse of what it actually takes to conceive, write, produce and present this art form.”

There is no charge for the performance but guests need to register on Eventbrite for the 3:00 pm performance as space is limited: S

ponsors for this event are the Arts Council of Monterey County, Santa Catalina School and the S.T.A.R. Foundation of Monterey County.
